Boone Mayor and "proud Democrat" John Slight announced his endorsement of Tom Latham for Congress in Iowa's Fourth Congressional District today.
"I have always followed the belief that the best choice you can make in any election is choose the candidate who you think is best for the future of your family and your community - regardless of the political party affiliation of that candidate," noted Mayor Slight in his public letter of endorsement. "It won't surprise many people to learn that I strongly believe Congressman Tom Latham is that candidate."
"I am deeply honored to have earned the trust and support of Mayor Slight," said Latham. "Whether it is working for the best interests of Iowa families and communities or working with others in Congress fight for ideas that will make a positive difference, I am committed to working with everyone to get things accomplished."

Dear Editor:
Throughout this election year, Iowans have been showered with political advertisements and solicitations from both parties seeking to persuade voters to support their cause and their candidates.
I have always followed the belief that the best choice you can make in any election is choose the candidate who you think is best for the future of your family and your community - regardless of the political party affiliation of that candidate.
As the mayor of Boone and a proud Democrat, I felt very strongly compelled to share with you who I believe will best represent us in the United States Congress based on what I believe is in the best interest for the community of Boone, the State of Iowa and the future of our children and grandchildren. It won't surprise many people to learn that I strongly believe Congressman Tom Latham is that candidate.
I can tell you first hand that Congressman Latham is a leader who works every day in Congress to expand upon the progress our community has made over the years. Tom has played a key role in advancing important projects that, once finished, will further strengthen the City of Boone and Boone County.
As mayor, one of my responsibilities is to communicate to our federal officials the challenges our local community faces and work with them to devise solutions to improve the quality of life for all. Every time I have worked with Congressman Latham his response is "how can I help?"
Congressman Latham has worked diligently to strengthen the condition of our roads, water supply and schools. In my discussions with other mayors and elected officials in the 4th Congressional District the same sentiment is echoed about Tom and his long list of accomplishments for Iowa. He is a trusted leader we all count on to be at our side during good times and bad and there is no better champion for Iowa in Congress than Tom Latham.
So - whether you are a Republican, and Independent, or a Democrat like me - I ask you to toss aside party labels on November 4th and vote for the future of your family and the State of Iowa. Let's vote to keep Congressman Tom Latham working for all of us!
